SI Foote discusses her novel ‘Incomplete’
This is such a great opportunity to potentially reach a new audience, and I want to thank J.C. Gemmell for offering me the chance to write to you all today. I will definitely be checking out more of his, and others, works in the future to help support the indie author community.
About ‘Incomplete’
No one who enters the Council chambers leaves it alive.
25,000 feet (7,620 meters) above the Gulf of Mexico floats Elementōrum Patriam, the eighth continent for the elementalist people, where the seven-member Council rules. Those born with the elementalist gene mutation are taken to Elementōrum Patriam, but if they can’t control one of the seven elements, they are killed.
Nineteen-year-old Ethan Silverspoon knows the fate that awaits him when he doesn’t pass his last Water element test. He walks willingly into the Council chambers and faces the seven. There’s only one problem.

The Council can’t kill him.
On Earth’s surface, irate humans, sick of having their children taken from them, seize their opportunity to destroy the elementalists forever. The Council faces their biggest war since the separation of Pangea, and they need Ethan on their side.
Ethan must find his place among the Council, or they will fall together.
The Inspiration
Even as a teenager, I wanted stories about non-teenager characters. I loved reading about people my age, but they always felt fantastical to the point where I couldn't achieve the same things as they could. The idea first came to me around twelve years ago when I was still in high school. I had only one character who was seventeen in my cast, and she turns eighteen (unmentioned) shortly into the narrative. The majority of my characters were in their early to mid twenties.
Writing about New Adult characters when I first started doing it was unheard of, but I thought it was important. Afterall, I wasn't far from being a New Adult myself at the time, and I knew I'd want fiction that centered around characters like me who weren't involved in the adult literature space (erotica). My characters are facing adult realities and ideologies that I think many people grapple with themselves. The more I wrote about this complex world the more problems I discovered and wanted to tackle. I'm looking forward to resolving all my threads in book three.
The story revolves around genocide. A topic that became a lot more relevant in recent years and months. When I first started writing, I framed it after WWII which I ironically didn't like learning about. I'm much more interested in the topic now. Despite being a Dystopian in the Science Fiction realm, there are a lot of fantastical elements that drive me to advertise it as a Dystopian Science Fantasy.
Ironically, the story was a bit inspired by a fanfiction I read before I understood what fanfiction was. A lot of people draw parallels between my story and the famous television show "Avatar: The Last Airbender", but I wouldn't see that show myself until around six years after I started writing the series. I decided early on to create a lower age of mortality for a world three hundred years in the future. Originally, I set the story in 2016 which felt "futuristic" to me at the time I started writing but obviously wasn't. The date range for the story changed frequently before I settled on 2316 as the starting year.
The first book is releasing on February 16, 2024!
